My older sister was always the family photographer.
When we'd sit down together to look at family pictures, it was amazing as to how few of the pictures she was actually in. Because she was so good at taking pictures, nobody ever thought to pick up her camera and shoot photos with her in it too.

But it is only to the untrained eye that it looked as though my sister was not in those photographs. While it is true that her face was nowhere to be seen, it was her soul that jumps out of the frame at the viewer.

From the way she posed her siblings, to the props she included, to the exact moment she decided to click the shutter when we were unaware, her essence and creativity leaps out at the viewer and is forever immortalized in these prints.

I got bit by the photography bug in 1999. I started with a compact point-and-shoot digital camera that had limited built-in memory and ate through $12.00 batteries like crazy.

In 2003 I made the leap from point-and-shoot to Single Lens Reflex (SLR) photography.

The difference in creative ability between the two styles of cameras are like night and day.

Technology in the photography field is making leaps and bounds, and I enjoy staying on top of it all. Digital Photography will never become boring thanks to this reason alone.

With the birth of my first child last month, Collin, most of my attention lately has been on him. I eagerly await his first smiles, his first steps, along with all the other steps along his life journey.

But when I'm not taking pictures of my family, I'm sharing my passion for photography with the people of Michigan.

I started a company in 2002 called Studio Magic By Mike. My goal was, and is, to share my ability to take an idea or vision and make it tangible. If it has to do with imaging, Studio Magic By Mike is here to serve.

While I enjoy graphic design and desktop publishing, digital photography is my favorite part of being in business.

I love what I do for a living, and it shows in my work.
